Portugal’s location is geographically central, easily accessible for Europeans and Americans alike. For instance, flying from England takes less than 2 1/2 hours, and driving from the border of Spain is only 1 1/2 hours. Easily accessible off the main roads, A1 and A25. These link all of Portugal from the North/South to the East and West.
Casa do Cabeço is the name of our property. Cabeço means head, like on top of a mountain. As you can see from the pictures taken from the balcony, the views are stunning.
Life Beyond the Horizon is affordable In Natura Gambling Residential Retreat. Positioned on the outskirts of a small village called Alombada in central Portugal. Less than 20 people are living here, and 5 of them are English! This serene setting gives gamblers a chance to retrain their brain. The winding road that snakes down and up the side of the mountain to Alombada has nestled in the valley, our local Parque Lazer Da Alombada. A beauty spot where you can reflect, breathe and embrace peace and tranquillity while walking or just sitting beside the river.
If we draw a circle with Porto at the top and Coimbra at the bottom. This area of Portugal has beautiful mountainous landscapes, waterfalls, picturesque valleys and rivers and only 30 minutes away from the expansive beaches of Costa Nova and Barra.
Nearby, about 50 minutes from our location, in the town of São Pedro Do Sul is the natural hot water spa ‘BALNEÁRIO QUEEN D. AMELIA ’ it provides you with a unique holistic experience. Helping you relax, allowing you to let go of your stresses and come out with a better feeling of wellbeing.
Porto is a coastal city in northwest Portugal well known for its stately bridges and port wine production. JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, frequented one of the worlds most beautiful bookstores, Livraria Lello. The staircase inspired the creation of Hogwarts Stairs. In the medieval Ribeira (riverside) district, narrow cobbled streets wind past merchants’ houses and cafes. This and the river Douro is featured in the picture above.
Aveiro is a large university city on the west coast of Portugal. It sits along a lagoon called Ria de Aveiro, distinguishable by its canals navigated by the colourful Moliceiros boats. Traditionally they were used to harvest seaweed but are now a popular tourist attraction. Aveiro is known, among other things, for its beautiful art nouveau buildings and the bell tower of the Cathedral of Aveiro.
Costa Nova sits between a vast lagoon on one side and the other, miles of sandy beaches and dunes. It is well known for its colourful painted striped houses. You cannot visit without stopping and having the best Pastel de Nata at the café Atlantida.
Sandy beaches stretch along the sunny coast from the Port of Aveiro to Costa Nova. Just a 15 minute walk away along the boardwalks. The lighthouse is 62 metres, the tallest in Portugal. With stunning views, it is free to scale on Wednesday afternoons.
The streets are colourful and vibrant, and this is where the Umbrella Sky Project started. The shopped lined walkways have a very unique feel to them. Every Summer, new street art is created. A good time to enjoy them is in July during the Festival AgitÁgueda. You can go to concerts for free on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and see some of the most important Portuguese artists performing.
Albergaria-a-Velha has a tradition of water, bread and windmills. This municipality has the most number of inventoried watermills in Europe. This lovely friendly local town is where we do most of our shopping as its location is nearby.
We know this is not going to be a holiday for you, although our location is stunning. However, the various activities in our Programmes For Gamblers and Families between counselling sessions, although enjoyable, have been researched and planned, so they enhance your path to recovery. You have done nothing wrong and, punishing you will not help your recover from this illness.
